Coil Cleaning in La Mesa, CA

Where coil grime actually comes from in La Mesa

Most of it is not household dust. It is eucalyptus fluff and jacaranda bloom litter. Chaparral pollen off Mount Helix adds to it. Mow a dry slope lot and the condenser eats the clippings. Pepper tree seed and bougainvillea bract are worse than leaves. They wedge between fins and stay.

Look at your condenser from the side, not the top. Fins should look like clean corduroy. A felted gray mat means the coil breathes through a filter it never got. Garden hose spray flattens fins and drives the mat deeper. That is the most common homeowner mistake here.

Indoors, the tell is the blower wheel, not the coil. Pull the panel and look at the fan blade cups. Caked cups mean the coil face is loaded too. Older La Mesa houses with attic air handlers and undersized return grilles pack coils fastest. Platform returns framed into a closet floor pull raw attic air past the filter edge.

Slab houses with closet units show it differently. The drain line trap sits short. Biofilm from a loaded coil clogs it, then the pan overflows onto flooring.

Cleaning helps a coil that is dirty. It won't fix bent fins or a failing capacitor. It won't fix a refrigerant leak either.
